About soap nuts
Indian soap nuts (Sapindus Mukorossi) are the fruit of a tree belonging to the soapberry family. This special tree is native to the foothills of the Himalayas and grows in India and Nepal. The fruit of the soapberry tree is stone-fruited, surrounded by a hard outer shell that is rich in saponins. Saponin is a natural surfactant that binds fats and dirt when it comes into contact with water, making it ideal for washing clothes. It also has many beneficial properties:
Natural – soap nuts are 100% natural and do not contain any artificial chemicals that could be harmful to the body or the environment.
Environmentally friendly – it is easily biodegradable and does not pollute the environment. Interestingly, it grows on trees that are never sprayed because its natural saponin content keeps pests away. It has soil-protecting properties and produces a lot of oxygen, thus contributing to the optimal ecological system of our planet.
Antibacterial – has a disinfecting effect
Hypoallergenic – does not irritate the skin. Ideal for sensitive and eczema-prone skin and for people suffering from other skin conditions (e.g. psoriasis, neurodermatitis). Safe to use for washing babies' clothes.
Gentle on fabrics – in addition to its excellent washing efficiency, it is also gentle as it does not damage the structure of the fabrics. With its use, clothes retain their shape and colour for longer
